I am delighted with this watch. My "good" (i.e. Swiss mechanical) watch is a Seamaster 120 (36.5mm case) and I was starting to think about wearing it a bit less, both to preserve it and because I have to grudgingly admit it is a bit on the small side by current standards. So I started to look around for something a bit bigger and with a black dial (and lume) for regular but not necessarily daily wear. I generally dislike watches with numbered hours (seriously, what's the point, unless you are learning to tell the time ... or want other people to think you are?) - so that considerably reduces the options. After thinking hard about some of the Seiko automatics I went with this for the following reasons:* I've had another Eco-Drive for almost two years and I like the system. Like a mechanical automatic, it's an energy scavenger, and that appeals to me much more than a battery-eater.* The cheaper Seikos don't permit handwinding, so unless you know you'll be wearing them all day every day, you will be setting them very frequently, which with day and date is a bit of a chore. In any case I don't want or need the day displayed on my watch. I can't understand why Seiko put day and date on 99% of their models. Sometimes less is more! Here are my observations:DesignClean and straightforward but with some nice touches, like the angle on the lugs or the protection around the crown. The case, having normal lugs, will also accept a nylon, silicone or leather strap of your choice, unlike some other models which have an integrated bracelet.QualityThe finish on the case, dial and bracelet is really good. A sapphire glass is a wonderful feature at this price point.BraceletThe bracelet strikes a good balance - it's substantial without being hefty. It does make a little noise as it moves but not too much, and not that tinny sound that you get from folded links. All the links including the end links are solid here and the removable links (of which there are plenty) are held by split pins.Water ResistanceBy turning the crown I can tell from the extra resistance (compared to my BM7193) that there are some fairly serious o-rings in there and I wouldn't hesitate to swim, snorkel or scuba with this in a pinch.LumeI know that opinions vary widely on this, but the lume seems excellent to me. I can read the time all through the night, and even into the early morning when it's starting to get light outside and I can make out shapes in the bedroom. Bear in mind that it's a very grey and rainy December here in the PNW and daylight is in short supply. Yet even without deliberately 'charging' the dial, it's legible all night long. The only way it could be better would be if there was an extra dot at 12; because all the hours look the same it is possible to misread the time - especially if you are sleepy and/or don't pick up the watch.AccuracyIn its first two weeks, the watch has gained under 1.5 seconds. That is better than my Rolex Oysterquartz could manage when it was brand new. And unlike that one, which ticked very loudly, this is inaudible unless you hold the watch next to your ear in a very quiet room. The seconds hand lines up quite well with the minute markers and its jumping movement has a nice quality which could be described as 'fast but not too fast'.Summary$150 might seem like a lot of money for an uncomplicated quartz watch, but I believe you do get what you pay for, and that includes the 6-year warranty, which is exceptional, as well as a rather decent bracelet. These movements can be serviced - Citizen publishes technical manuals which include lubrication points - so they are not simply low-end disposable units. I would not be surprised if this were to tick on for several decades before needing any attention.

Nice looking watch. Keeps very accurate time. It is water resistant, unlike most Seikos nowadays. The crystal is clear and tough and resists scratches. A little glow on the hands for viewing in the dark. You can tell the time, but it is not super bright. The band was easy enough to adjust without needing a jeweler. I just watched a couple of youtube videos and was able to remove a few links. A versatile watch, looks good with a suit and looks sporty enough to wear with jeans. All in all, an excellent watch that I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. I use to be a Seiko guy, but their quality has fallen over the last five years. I am now a convert to Citizen.UPDATE 1/17/2019: almost 18 months later and still keeps great time and the crystal does not have a mark on it. I am changing my rating to 6 Stars.

First of all, let's face it, the technology is where it should be--a watch that is powered by light, never (really, never? I'm not sure I believe that -- but I guess we'll have to wait forever to find out), never needs a battery change, probably will never need servicing of any kind. Compare that to the average quartz battery watch that you have to replace the battery every three to five years or so, or compare it to the automatic that, if it's worth keeping, needs an expensive servicing every five years or so. Exposing the watch to light, any source of light, charges the battery and keeps it running and the power reserve is incredible, according to the Citizen user guide: "fully charged it will run for a minimum of six months without further charging." Perfect. It's a great looking watch, there is no doubt about it. It is dressy enough to wear with a suit, yet bold and masculine enough to go with jeans and sportswear. I especially like the dial with the accentuated silvery markers and over-sized silver hands that contrast beautifully with the black dial. The luminance is extraordinary, a beautiful shade of cyan or blue, it glows brightly even in the dim light of dusk or dawn.As for the case, it is a nice combination of brushed and polished stainless steel and a very noticeable size at 41mm, not counting the crown. I like the crown guard that will keep the crown from snagging on shirt cuffs and such. It is rated at a 100M for water resistance, and that is more than adequate for the occasional splashing it might get. A sapphire crystal tops it off and I think that's a real plus although you would expect it on a watch that costs over $200. So there's no doubt that the case and crystal, if necessary, will stand up to many year's abuse and hard use, toil and sweat, and still look good. The bracelet, being solid-link stainless steel with a push-button deployment clasp is also what you would expect on a more expensive watch; it has solid end-links as well. It was a little difficult to fit my wrist until I discovered that the half-links are not really "half" links. A full link measures about 9mm whilst the half-links measure about 6mm, so you really have a lot of variance. For example, once I got the size close, it was still too tight; taking out one full link (9mm) was not enough, taking out a full and a half (15mm) was too much, but taking out the two half-links (12mm) got it right. Kudos to Citizen's engineering department for solving the problem. As for the Eco movement, I haven't had it long enough to know how it will hold up or how accurate it is, but after 48 hours the watch is still dead-on, accurate to the second. One thing I think is a sign of a quality quartz movement is when the second hand ticks right on the second markers, every time, all the way around the dial. This one does just that. And finally, another aspect of Citizen's quality is the fact that the watch came to me charged up, with the winding stem pulled out and the watch stopped; as soon as I set the time and pushed the crown in it started and hasn't stopped since. I left it under a light all night to get it on its way to being fully charged. Once charged it won't take much to keep it that way, according to the user guide, although I will leave it out of my closed watch box when not wearing it -- whenever that will be, which I am sure will not be too often. The overall quality and workmanship of this Citizen Eco is exceptional and comparable to many watches that cost 2-3 times as much, or more, and this is coming from someone who owns Omega, Rolex, Hamilton and other fine Swiss watches, quartz and auto. It is my first Citizen and I am quite sure it won't be my last. If you are looking for a beautiful watch that is accurate, durable, and relatively inexpensive, you cannot go wrong with this Citizen ECO.

8 Month ReviewPros:Makes a fantastic everyday watch since it has a scratch resistant sapphire crystal and a water resistance of 100m. Comes with solid end links (many watches at this price will have hollow end links).Fairly large at 41mm but fits my small 6.75 inch wrist just fine due to the short lugs. Being 10mm thick it wears very comfortably. Lug width is 22mm making it very easy to find additional straps and bracelets.Keeps excellent time and looks great on bracelets, leather, and nato straps.Cons:Lume is not bright and does not last long. Lume is also not quite centered on a few of the hour markers. Not issues for me at this price point but may bother some. The only real issue for me is that it's difficult to read the date at some angles.
